Sammy cut his second tooth this morning in the car on the way to church (a mere 6 days after the first tooth). We had to make a detour to buy some more baby Tylenol, as I didn't have any in his diaper bag. He handled it well, and was in good spirits when Allie and Taylor came over after church. We took turns watching our friends Jessica and John's kids as they have watched Johnny and Sammy twice now so we could go out on two dates. Kid swapping is a great idea! No baby sitting costs, you know you can trust that you have a good sitter, and your own kids are entertained with a playmate for a few hours. Such a deal!

Sammy Cut His First Tooth

Sammy's smile was made possible today by Tylenol and cold chew toys. In hindsight I realize now that he cut his first tooth yesterday afternoon. After a bout of unexplained screaming, he was acting very fussy and very tired but couldn't stay asleep. He woke up crying over and over for four straight hours but each time I went to his crib, he showed no interest in getting up and would just put his head back down and try to go back to sleep. This is highly unusual behavior and he felt a tad warm, but didn't register any notable fever. After four hours of this I knew something was wrong, but not what, so I figured I'd try Tylenol and see if it was pain that was bothering him. I had already checked for everything else I could think of. Well, that did the trick and he stayed asleep after that. I noticed he felt warm during the night and then this morning I watched him bite a chew toy and then start crying in pain. So, I checked his lower gum and sure enough ... his first tooth cut through! I was joking with my friend Jessica that Johnny didn't cut his first tooth until he was 9 months old (which was when I started feeding him baby cereal) and maybe since I started Sammy on cereal at 6 months, he figured he'd better hurry up and start cutting teeth to be ready for more food! Ha ha!

Fat Boys

In case anyone has forgotten how fat Johnny was as a baby. Johnny is in the left hand panels ... the one with the hair. Ha ha! According to my home scale, Sammy was somewhere around 21 or 21 1/2 pounds at about 6 1/2 months old. I'll find out an exact weight in a week and a half when I take Sammy in for his checkup.

Another couple funny fatty photos of Johnny:

New Year's Eve

The weather was unseasonably warm for a couple of days, which gave us a great opportunity to spend some time playing outside. After being in isolation for the last month, Johnny is profoundly enjoying every opportunity he gets to run around and play with someone other than me. Of course he still loves his time with me, but variety is refreshing. Johnny did rather enjoy the fact that I raked up all of the leaves from our back yard into a big pile for him to romp in. The pile was as tall as he is!

I started Sammy on carrots and stopped after four days. I noticed that he developed an odd dry cough that was disturbing his sleep and by the 3rd and 4th days, he was breathing noisily and wheezing again. I don't know if it is related to the new food or not, but I stopped the carrots anyway. I plan to call his pediatrician to see if I should attempt to reintroduce them to determine if the carrots were in fact the cause of his wheezing, or if that is too risky. We had spent a lot of time outdoors those days, so it might have been pollen allergies. I really pray Sammy doesn't have ongoing breathing difficulties. I'm checking into allergy testing for both of us.
