Spring Break

I've done my best to show Johnny a good time during his Spring Break from school. Monday we met with some of Sammy's playgroup friends and their older siblings. Tuesday, we went to Johnny's new best amiga's house to play. They treated us to lunch at the local country club where Johnny and Milagros had fun playing racquetball, pool and ping pong. It was a really great time and we ended up staying for half the day!

Milagros took this photo of JohnnyMilagros

Wednesday, we went to the Science Museum with some friends and to the giant park with playgrounds across the street afterwards for a picnic lunch and to play. I could easily imagine getting passes to this museum. There is so much to see and touch and we're all very interested in science. Another exceptional outing! These photos were taken with my cell phone, so they're not great quality.

Thursday, we stayed home for most of the day (Sammy didn't have an opportunity to nap for three days in a row, and that's a bit much for him with all the activity). Johnny needed to do a fair amount of writing to go with his entry in a local art competition. He is submitting a photograph and needed to write out the artist statement and the process he used to prepare the photograph. The theme was "I can make a difference by ..." It was a bit of a challenge for him to come up with something that he could actually make a difference doing at the tender age of 5 and be able to convey that message in a photograph. I'm proud of his effort and we'll post the photo and title later.

Friday, Keith had the day off of work and we took a family outing down to Brazos Bend State Park so the boys could go fishing for the first time. It was a beautiful drive down there with lots of fun things to see on the way ... magical looking Oak trees blanketed with Spanish Moss, wildflowers of all colors on the side of the road, horses, cows, Brahmas, Longhorns etc. Once in the park, we took a short hike to Horseshoe Lake and quickly discovered a giant alligator sunning in the spot I had picked for fishing. We kept our distance and he laid as still as a statue the entire time we were there. There are alligators, poisonous snake, poison ivy, chiggers ... the whole bit. The boys had a strict rule to stay very close to us while we were there. We fished in a couple of different locations and the boys had a great time. Sammy was tickled to have caught the first fish and was very eager to pick up the worms and the fish without hesitation. Johnny preferred not to touch anything slimy, which is fine. There are enough non-squeamish people in our family to handle that part for him. Sammy was exhausted and reached his limit about dinnertime and wanted to go home.

Today, we have a couple of Easter Egg hunts going on in a few hours, but then it will be nap time for sure. They've been up late, up early and had very few naps. I'm going to take the next two days at a slower pace so they can rest up and be ready for the normal routine on Monday. All in all ... a successful, fun vacation!

Update to post:
Okay, so we didn't relax for the rest of the weekend but instead we went up to Quentin's house after church on Sunday. The boys had a great time riding their 4 wheelers and hunting for Easter eggs.

Love the pix! Don't you just love spring break? I go back to school on Wednesday, as does Benjamin. Also, next time you're up this way, the Cockrell Butterfly Center totally redid their entymology exhibit and it's AMAZING! You will love it and so will J and S!
